Their salvation lies in an unfinished ship tucked away in a secret government base, and only James can break in and pilot him and his people to freedom on a nearby space station.

Skye O’Connor’s boyfriend never returns after his gang attempts an assassination of the Governor, and the State Building is destroyed. Worse, crazed moonshiners addicted to the chemical Morpheus have stormed the city, and she must find a safe place for her and her boyfriend’s daughter. When a heroic man saves her, Skye asks to accompany him on his quest to find the last colony ship left on Earth.

As the city falls around them, James and Skye must work together to build a new future, all the while rediscovering their ability to love, before the apocalypse claims them both.

Review: A Hero Rising by Aubrie Dionne takes the reader to the beginning in this prequel of the New Dawn series.

Earth is no longer safe, and James Wilfred and Skye O’Connor must find a way off their dying planet at all costs. As James watches the love of his life leave in a spaceship, he thinks all is lost until he learns an unfinished spaceship may be their ticket off this planet. Skye watched her boyfriend leave with his gang in their attempts to assassinate the governor. Now she watches over his child and must battle the moonshiners from killing them. When James and she team up, they discover the strength they have together, but if it’ll be enough to save themselves and those they love, only time will tell.

Aubrie Dionne has done it once again in creating an action-packed, suspenseful tale filled with love and tenderness. A Hero Rising takes humanity at its most dire and showcases how people react to their world falling apart. Some crash and burn with it, but James and Skye rise above it and find courage, bravery, and love. From Paradise 21 and Tundra 37, readers glimpse what happened in the past, but now readers will see how the path to the stars was people’s only chance. The pace rarely let up, and I feared for the characters. Plus, the alien-like zombies or moonshiners are scary.

Romance, a touch of horror, a post-apocalyptic planet, and space...what more can a reader ask for! Although I encourage others to read Aubrie Dionne’s Paradise 21 and Tundra 37 because they are wonderful, touching reads, Dionne’s A Hero Rising can stand alone.

Five Bookworms = I loved it!
