Book Review: 1302 - THE ALPHA by Christine Rains

Title: 1302 – The Alpha
Series: The 13th Floor, #2
Author: Christine Rains
Format: Ebook Novella
Source: Author
Genre: Paranormal Romance

Having been cooped up in her apartment for months, Stefanie Porter didn't think one run in the woods would matter. The wolf within her needed to stretch her legs, but obviously she didn't have very good instincts. Her former pack found her, and they almost catch her too, but a mysterious lone wolf jumps in to help Stefanie escape.

The pack is driven by their cruel Alpha, Wyatt. He refuses to give Stefanie her freedom even after she lost the challenge to lead them and left their territory. She can hide in her apartment, or the lone wolf can teach her some of his unusual urban survival tricks. James Roberts might be a bit geeky, but he's smart and looks hot when the argyle sweater comes off. He has a ridiculous ambition to become a superhero, and it might be admirable if Wyatt couldn't rip him limb from limb.

With the pack scouring the city for her, Stefanie must convince James to teach her, or fight not only for her life, but his as well.

Review: Christine Rain’s 1302 – The Alpha twists the norms of paranormal romance on its head.

Werewolf Stefanie Porter needs to stretch her legs after being cooped up for months in her apartment, but the one time she goes out, her old pack has found her. She won’t let their Alpha Wyatt capture her again. A lone wolf saves her life. James Roberts wants to use his werewolf powers to be a superhero, and he will do anything to help Stefanie, teach her his tricks. But this Alpha wolf is used to doing things on her own, and she doesn’t want to get James killed. She’ll have to find a way to trust James and reclaim her pack or die trying.

The Alpha takes place during the same time as 1301 – The Marquis. Stefanie is a strong woman, the Alpha, but she also has a creative and protective side. James is adorable and geeky, so unlike the normal alpha males in romance novels. Their budding relationship during the chaos brought to Carmine city is refreshing. I love how this story adds to the series and weaves in pieces of book one into this novella. And the villains range from vicious to borderline insane to full of delightful gray areas. Rains laces the smoking yet sweet romance with nail-biting tension in this fast-paced story.

Once again Christine Rains has created a unique romance novella filled with an original twist on werewolves in 1302 – The Alpha.
