They’re reading the names of those to be killed on the Emergency Broadcast System. You are listening over the battery-powered radio on your kitchen table, and they’ve just read yours.

Your name is Jack Colclough. You have a wife, a daughter, and a young son. You live in Albuquerque, New Mexico. People are coming to your house to kill you and your family. You don’t know why, but you don’t have time to think about that any more.

You only have time to….

First line: Confirmation of the murders came by way of two shocking films shot by holidaymakers.

Last line read: They passed two fast-food restaurants, several gas stations, a fairground, a high school, a string of motels.

Overall Impression: Those first few paragraphs pulled me right in. Then, I got to a section in present tense, and although the story was good, I was having a hard time when the writing was in present tense. But luckily the next part isn’t. Wow! I was speeding alone in this horror-scape of a world Crouch has created. It’s dark and horrible, and I have no clue what’s going on, but I want to find out.

Would I keep reading?: Yes!
