Book Review: CARBON COPY by Terri Talley Venters

Title: Carbon Copy
Author: Terri Talley Venters
Publisher: Wild Child Publishing (June 19, 2012)
Format: eARC Novel

Genre: Romantic Suspense/Mystery

Description: Lilly Allen has brains, beauty, and a trust fund. She's living in New York City and her career as a reporter is taking off. She's hoping the love of her life, Grier, will propose soon. She has it all, or so she thinks.

Grier Garrison, Create Life executive, is running the company while his father, Dr. Michael Garrison, is in the ICU awaiting a heart transplant. Grier knows the truth about Create Life and its shady side business. He fears Lilly and her twin brother, Luke, are in danger.

While working on two unrelated stories, stolen newborns and cloning, Lilly discovers a shocking connection. Horrific things are happening, but who is behind it all?

Review: Nothing is quite what it seems in Terri Talley Venters’ debut novel Carbon Copy.

Lilly Allen has it all: beauty, brains, a trust fund, a great career, and the love of her life. But what she doesn’t know about her and her twin brother Luke will change everything. As she delves into her reports on stolen newborns and human cloning, she discovers not everything is at it seems, and she must discover the connection before her time runs out.

Venters holds back no punches in her debut novel Carbon Copy. The seemingly perfect lifestyles the characters have is slowly peeled away to reveal great horrors from their past. The author certainly knows the places her characters are, but I would’ve liked a little more description to help ground some of the scenes. For a mystery, I also would’ve liked to see a little more secrets held back until the grand reveal. The dialogue is snappy, and the shorter chapters allow for a fast-paced read. I love the controversial background about cloning and thought it was a major highlight with this novel.

Overall, Carbon Copy by Terri Talley Venters is a refreshing, fast-paced read and a great debut. This novel is definitely no carbon copy.

Book Review: TRUST ME, TELL ME by Jenn Nixon

Title: Trust Me, Tell Me
Series: Storm and Chance series, #3
Author: Jenn Nixon
Publisher: Tease Publishing, LLC (January 14, 2012)
Format: PDF ARC Novella
Source: Author
Genre: Romantic Suspense

Description: Mason Storm is set to marry Veronica Chance in seven days. When he receives a mysterious text message he immediately packs and leaves without saying a word to anyone. After meeting with his former boss, Mason knows his past has finally caught up with him. In order to clear his name of false charges he returns home to Boston ready to put the issues to bed. Veronica, however, isn’t making it easy. She’s determined to help despite his claims of being the only one to make things right. As the investigation intensifies, Mason is captured and Veronica holds the key to his release. Will she make it there in time to save him and their wedding or will everything fall apart?

Review: A suspenseful, fast-paced read, Jenn Nixon’s Trust Me, Tell Me is the perfect ending to the romance between Mason Storm and Veronica Chance.

Days before Mason Storm’s wedding to Veronica Chance, he receives a text message and must pack his bags without a word. He has a chance to catch who ruined his good name years ago, but Veronica won’t let him do this alone. While he’s chasing clues in Boston, she’s using any connection she has to help him, despite his protests. When Mason is kidnapped, Veronica must find the evidence to his release or their wedding day will never happen.

Trust Me, Tell Me replays this title theme throughout the novella. Although Mason and Veronica have been thrown together in dire situations, they must sort out whether or not they can trust each other. The plot is fast-paced and suspenseful. The romance is spicy and passionate with a deeper need and understanding between the main characters. Nixon does a great job giving us enough of the world and details in this quick read. Although I would recommend reading the other two novellas as well (Wild and Wicked and Chance of a Storm), Nixon gives us enough background, so the reader has an idea what is going on.

Tension-filled and exciting, Trust Me, Tell Me by Jenn Nixon is a great spicy read and a truly perfect ending, or shall we say beginning, to a thrilling couple.

With a flick of her stone, her body glowed with pulsing energy. One touch and she could bring all nine Perseans back, but did she dare?
