Review: “Stuck on You” is one of fifteen stories in Jeffrey Archer’s And Thereby Hangs a Tale.

Jeremy has an extremely lucky day when he crosses paths with Arabella at the race track. She tells him which horse to bet on and he wins. When their paths cross again, it seems serendipitous. Now his fiancĂ©e, she wants the best engagement ring, a yellow diamond, but Jeremy can’t afford such gems. Arabella’s full-proof plan is to steal the diamond. Jeremy knows he should walk away, but he doesn’t know if he can leave behind the woman he loves.

“Stuck on You” is a quick, fast-paced short story. At times I was reminded of the Thomas Crown Affair, but with jewel thieves. Jeremy seems gullible but likable, whereas Arabella holds a hint of suspicion about her. The actual heist and ending was predictable but fun. It reminded me of a Monk episode when a jewel disappeared at the museum. Archer knows how to hold an audience with this tale.

“Stuck on You” is definitely a leisure read, and I would be interested in reading the rest of the stories in And Thereby Hangs a Tale.
